Garden Open For Swannington HT

 10-5pm Saturday 17th August 2024

In 2023 visitors donated a magnificent £610 for Swannington Heritage Trust funds, which more than paid for repairs to storm damaged gazebos.

In 2024 visitors donated £448 for new seats at Swannington Heritage Trust sites.

The garden has many features including an apple arch, dragonry, artworks, photo arches, trellis walks and themed raised beds.  The one acre field comprises a Welsh heritage espalier orchard, wildflower meadow with tree circles, tools graveyard and wildflower mounds.

The owner tries to manage the garden in an environmentally manner with compost heaps, brash mounds, turf stacks, bee friendly plants, hedges and long grass.  Some areas of the field are still awaiting further development.  The garden will never be a NGS or National Trust weed free and perfect lawns garden.  Instead it is a testament to the successes and failures of an ordinary gardener who likes being outside and having a go.

Dogs who keep their well trained carers on a short leash will be welcome.

Paved Paths

A network of slabbed paths facilitates access around most of the upper garden.  Most of the paths are broad, but the one next to the dragonry is very narrow.

Lower Garden

A combination of slabbed, grass and bark paths provide access within the lower garden.  Steps or a grass slope enable the transition from upper to lower garden.

Grass Paths

A network of grass paths provides access around the wildflower meadow and trees.  This area is flat or on a gentle slope.  As it is a field the surface can be uneven.

2 Batsons Court, Top Road, Griffydam, LE67 8HX.

Coalville Wheelers have kindly given permission for the use of their car park for thsee event, likewise the owner of the adjacent grass field.   Cars should be parked then follow the arrows to Reception.

Space within the courtyard is very limited and residents parking spaces must not be obstructed.  If you wish to drop off someone with mobility issues near the front door, that is fine provided that you immediately move your car to the Coalville Wheelers car park.
